Decided it was time to get my ass in gear and get the 1992 ready for paint. So off to sanding I went:
Once I got the hood all sanded and feathered out, I went to grab my primer and realized I was out..........So I masked off the hood, grabbed some Rust-oleum I had left over from the car, and threw it to the girls. They decided some graffiti was in order:
My wife was less than impressed, but we all laughed. This will work for the moment until I can get some more primer, then I’ll just sand it out again quick. There’s a lot of peel to sand out, so this is going to take me a while.
And now I’m leaving for the day, off to do more sanding at home. Cheers!

I spot a Dr. Who reference on there.

Na, she’ll get run until she dies now, no repaints in her future.

So you already have a lifted van ... Is it time for a lowered one as well?

Na, WI roads+lowered vehicle=bad day.
It sits substantially lower than I’m used to already.

Probably not actually. Once she dies I’ll be looking into a newer Charger or Tour-x.

Your level of wrenching motivation finally got me moving on the truck. Had to wash 5 yrs of dust off it. The new engine and trans got lowered in last night. Now to start hooking things up. Do I change my name to 454ls?

In my defense our best vehicles have cost me $100-650. Our worst vehicles were in order:
2012 Corolla S Manual, bought brand new.
2004 Ford Taurus, bought with 38k miles.
2004 Ford F250, bought with 92k miles.
2003 Nissan Sentra SE-R, bought with 48k miles.
The wife and I agreed that the fuel/brake system was the last time the car gets major repairs. So now if it needs anything outside normal wear/tear things, it will get replaced by either a Charger or a Tour-x.

Sadly it’s not a bb. 6.2 6l80. I couldn’t take the slow expressway speeds and horrible mpgs anymore. The truck isn’t a perfect truck. It had been crashed hard before I bought it. I want this to be a daily driver. The big block is going into a jet boat.

You know the 454 could have easily been opened up for more power/torque?
No offense, I hate the idea of pulling out a stout/torquey motor in favor of an LS, especially when it’s something like a 454SS.
What were you doing that it was slow at expressway speeds? The last one I was in could pull from 70-100 like it was nothing without even downshifting.

The rpms were at 4200 at 70 mph. It would still pull but the high rpms wore out the engine. It was a painful decision. Considering I have a fresh 454 and th400 on the shelf.
The performance parts for the 454 cost more than my donor engine and trans. And it would have had a carburetor.
My friends all h ate the idea also. I expect to take a beating. I’ve had the truck since 2003 and it will never get sold.

Sounds like your issue was more gearing in the rear end than the actual drivetrain.
Unless you’re also changing the rear end out, you’ll likely end up with the same issues as the modern transmissions are geared for acceleration more than cruising.
End of the day, it’s not my truck and I respect your decision . Good luck on the build, I look forward to hearing about it when it’s done.
